Your Weekly Guide to Artist and Business Development

One Music Production Tool...

Want to start recording your music but aren’t ready to splurge on Pro Tools or Logic? Audacity is a free, beginner-friendly DAW that lets you record and edit without the frills. It’s perfect for laying down ideas, editing vocals, and mixing simple tracks.

One Songwriting Idea...

So much is happening in the world right now, and songwriting can be a powerful way to process it all. If you’re wrestling with feelings of frustration, hope, sadness, or a desire for change, turning those feelings into music can be a meaningful way to express yourself and connect with others.

Try it out: Write a song about a topic you haven’t explored before. Let current events spark a new idea, something personal, global, or somewhere in between. When you’re done, we want to help you spread your message around the world! Submit your demo and learn more at the link below.

One Marketing Tip...

Have you been reading other people’s social posts and noticed something different? Em dashes (—) are popping up everywhere now that content creators are using ChatGPT to create their copy. While grammatically correct, many people are starting to associate em dashes with inauthentic content.

Pro-tip: To make your content feel more genuine, try writing your first draft without AI, then use it only to polish or brainstorm ideas. Keep your natural voice and avoid overusing punctuation like em dashes to maintain authenticity.

One Business Resource...

Writing songs is one thing, but making money from them is a whole other game! We found a YouTube video that breaks down how publishing really works, from collecting your own royalties to starting your own publishing company.

One Performance Idea...

“When I go onstage, I'm not trying to be anyone but myself... The biggest rebellion is just being exactly who you are. Everyone's always telling young people, 'It's okay to be yourself, it's okay to be yourself.' But it's so hard. That's the scariest thing in the world, to just be like, 'This is me, and I don't really care if you like it.'" — Lady Gaga

Try it out: Next time you rehearse, ask yourself what it would look like to perform without trying to impress anyone. What would you wear? How would you move? Would you bring anything on stage with you? Build a performance that feels like an honest extension of yourself, and see how your audience responds.

See you next week!
