One Songwriting Quote...
“You can rhyme a word with itself. There is no rule about that. No one will be mad” — Dan Wilson
Try it out: Are there any songwriting “rules” you’ve been subconsciously following? Free yourself from them during your next writing session by checking out renowned songwriter Dan Wilson’s Instagram series #wordsandmusicinsixseconds where he gives simple, yet profound advice to musicians. We’ve linked one of our favorites below!
One Marketing Idea...
Give your most loyal fans early access to your next release by creating a private “First Listen Club." Send them a link to your upcoming song a few weeks before you announce it and thank them for their support. It builds trust with your fans, and chances are, they’ll tell people about it without you even asking.
Try it out:
Pick 5 to 10 fans who regularly engage with your content. Send them a personal message with a private link to your unreleased track. Let them know they’re hearing it before anyone else and that you wanted to share it with people who truly support your music.
One Performance Idea...
Struggling to read the room? Why not just ask your audience what they want to hear? Creating a moment in the middle of your set where the audience gets to “vote” on what they want next is a great way to boost engagement and get them invested in your performance.
Try it out: Pick a spot in your setlist to pause and ask your audience to help decide what to play next. Offer two different crowd favorites and have them cheer louder for the song they want to hear. Make sure both songs are ones you play well and are ready to perform!
