Your Weekly Guide to Artist and Business Development

One Marketing Resource...

If you’re looking for straight-to-the-point, no nonsense marketing advice that works, check out @ruffmusicofficial on Instagram. Here’s one of his Reels we think you’ll find really impactful (and super easy to test out).

One Songwriting Idea…

You’re probably already recording parts of your writing sessions on the Voice Memos app on your phone, but are you recording every melody or chord progression you come up with throughout the day? If not, start now! Those little melodies and phrases will help you out big time when you hit a creative block.

Try it out: Make a habit of recording every melody and lyric idea as soon as inspiration hits! Most importantly, clearly label each new recording in a way that will help you find it when you need it most. Try phrases like “moody melody idea” or “uplifting chord progression” so that when you search for “melody idea,” all your options come up. You’ll thank yourself later!

One Music Production Tool…

Mastering your DAW’s shortcuts can seriously boost your productivity. When you’re not slowed down by technical steps, your creativity can flow freely. A great way to get started is by using a shortcut keyboard or skin designed for your specific DAW.

Try it out: You can find plenty of shortcut keyboards and skins to buy online, but if you’re on a budget, pick five of the most common tasks you do in your DAW and learn the keyboard shortcuts for each. Write the commands on small pieces of tape and stick them on the corresponding keys as a quick visual reminder.

One Performance Tip…

Need a bigger space to practice? Reach out to your local community centers, churches, or schools. These spots often have large rooms or halls available for little to no cost. Even your neighborhood music store might have a back room you could use. All you have to do is ask!

Pro-tip: Even if you don’t need a larger space, practicing in a new environment and stepping out of your comfort zone can help build confidence and prepare you for the unpredictability of live shows.

One Business Tip...

Making connections in the music industry can sometimes feel exhausting, but it’s also one of the most rewarding things you can do, not just for your music career, but for your personal growth too. Every new relationship brings fresh opportunities, inspiration, and support. Remember, the connections you build today could open doors you never expected tomorrow…

Try it out: Set a goal to connect with three new people online each week or attend one music event per month. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but in no time you’ll notice how much easier it becomes (and you might even make some new friends)!

See you next week!
